A reference library, not a script
A Knowledge Pack is a searchable collection of source material. Ovation retrieves relevant passages based on the assignment's focus and the conversation, rather than sending every page of every file to the AI at once.
Reference material helps ground responses and evaluation, but does not guarantee perfect retrieval or accuracy. Test the assignment against your sources before learners use it.
From source material to grounded practice
- Build a focused pack from permitted reference material and wait for its processing status to show it is ready.
- Attach it to the assignment or supported practice configuration, and specify the topic or focus.
- As the conversation develops, Ovation retrieves excerpts relevant to the discussion.
- Test expected questions, compare responses with the sources, and refine the pack or assignment focus.
What belongs in a Knowledge Pack?
- Good fits
- Course readings, case material, manuals, policies, procedures, and long references where a few passages matter at a time.
- Use Imports instead
- Slides, notes, and other materials the learner needs to see during practice.
- Use Personas or Modifiers instead
- Short instructions for behavior, attitude, pressure, and role-play boundaries.
- Use Custom Factors instead
- The specific criteria you want scored. A reference rubric does not replace selecting the intended Factors.
Keep the library focused and current
- Use readable text and clear headings so important passages can be found.
- Remove duplicate, outdated, or contradictory references.
- Keep each pack relevant to a clear course, task, or topic.
- Upload only material you have permission to use. Avoid unnecessary personal or confidential information.
- Check processing status and test grounded responses after changing source material.
Grounded practice can use more AI tokens because relevant excerpts accompany the conversation. Account and organization limits still apply.
