A clear criterion for feedback
A Factor combines a short label, such as Clarity, with instructions that describe what the AI should evaluate. In the report, a scored Factor includes a rating from 0 to 100 and written feedback about your performance. A standard scenario uses five Factors to keep the evaluation focused.
Read the explanation alongside the rating. Factor feedback is AI-generated coaching informed by the session transcript and context, not a substitute for an instructor's judgment.
Included, Personal, and Organization Factors
- Included Factors
- Criteria supplied by Ovation. Start with the available scenario defaults, or browse the Included library when choosing a different evaluation focus.
- Personal Factors
- Criteria you create for your own practice. Creating one adds it to your Personal Factors library; you still need to select it for the scenario or session where you want to use it.
- Organization Factors
- Shared criteria available to your organization. These help align practice with course objectives or a common rubric. Creating or editing them requires the appropriate organization permissions.
Choose a useful set of Factors
- Start with the learning goal. Decide what successful communication should sound like in this scenario.
- Choose five distinct criteria. Avoid evaluating the same skill under several labels unless that overlap is intentional.
- Read each Factor's instructions, not just its label. Two Factors with similar names can evaluate different evidence.
- Use a custom Factor when the available criteria do not capture your task or rubric. Follow Customize feedback with Custom Factors to create and apply one.
Which Factors will your session use?
Defaults are a starting point. Review the criteria for the actual practice you are about to complete.
- Independent scenario practice
- Ovation provides defaults. Organization defaults can replace those selections, and your saved personal selections take precedence over the corresponding defaults.
- Web App session setup
- When available, the Factors selection for that session determines its evaluation. Check the selected set before starting.
- Assignments
- The assignment's configured Factors determine the evaluation. Changing your personal scenario defaults does not replace the assignment's criteria.
- Other structured activities
- Activities with their own configured criteria can use those criteria instead of general scenario defaults. Follow the setup shown for that activity.
Use Factors to guide improvement
Connect each piece of feedback to something you said or did in the conversation. Choose one change for the next attempt, then compare similar sessions using the same criteria. If feedback seems surprising, check the transcript and the Factor's instructions before changing the rubric.
Factor feedback and delivery analytics serve different purposes. A criterion about explaining your reasoning evaluates the content of the conversation; a pace or pause measure describes delivery. See Understand reports and feedback.
